about; May
Sawasdee Kra, I'm May. I worked as a journalist in Thailand for more than 10 years with many newspapers in many divisions. I wrote articles and interviewed VIPs from around the world because I speak English and can translate to Thai.
Whilst working as a journalist, I realised I had a talent for photography so I applied to the top three photography associations in Thailand and developed my talent [pun intended]. I met several top Thai photographers who taught me techniques to improve my skills. Working with these professionals taught me a lot, although they criticized me whilst I practiced and I felt bad when they complained, I persisted.
After I learned that being a good photographer requires total perception of one's surroundings, I learned to notice light and composition.
I worked for some time as a photographer for many magazines until I decided to formalize my photography credentials. Although there are good schools all over the world I chose to study in the USA. I applied to 20 universities and all of them accepted me and offered scholarships, I selected San Francisco State University simply because I wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge.
I was fortunate to have another fine opportunity; during my studies my professor offered me a photography position with a sub company of Columbia Pictures. I held the position for 5 years until I decided to travel more.
I truly believe "a picture is worth a thousand words".
For me, Life is a journey to be recorded in photographs.
